#A34 above is a reproduction of a 19th century icon. The holiday honoring these great venerables (St. Basil, St. Gregory, and St. Chrysostom) was set up in Constantinople during 1804. The legend says that these bishops were arguing which one was greater and better. The Metropolitan John then had a vision: that these three bishops should be regarded as equal and that a holiday for all of them should be established. These saints are called "Worldly Angels", "Heavenly People", "Columns of Truth and Faith", and "The Wisest Doctors of Weaknesses of the Soul" during church services January 30.
