ICONS OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
The icons in this section are of the Mother of God, also known as the Theotokos, Virgin, or Madonna.
The metallic covers (oklad) for these icons are made with Pewter or Silver. The Pewter covers have a more satiny lustre than those made with silver. Halos on the pewter covers are adorned with enamel or gilt (brass).
The Silver covers have a more brilliant lustre than covers made with pewter. Silver covers are variously adorned with Gold, Brass Gilt, Enamel, Amber, Crystals, Stones, Pearls, and Jewels.
