These Covers are made of leather with
religious scenes in attached silver panels.
GOSPEL COVER G1
HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF G1
Gospel Cover G1 shown above was commissioned to celebrate the visit of Pope John Paul II to Lowicz, Poland. The design of the silver sections and the leather reproduces an existing Gospel Cover.

Gospel Cover G2, shown in a section below, is similar to G1 but is all gold and silver with no leather on the exterior.
OUTER LEATHER COVER OF G1
The leather is hand finished in olden style.
The red color shown earlier for G1 has been historically popular in Poland.
However, black (shown immediately above), brown, purple and other colors are also available.
The leather also extends to the clasp as well as to two inner retaining bands.

INTERIOR FINISH OF G1
While the exterior surface is leather, the inside is finished in velvet.
Two leather bands extend vertically toward the outside of the velvel panels as retainers to hold the Gospel in place.
The velvet and two retaining bands can be seen in the image to the left.

SIZE OF G1 COVER
As seen in the closed position to the left, the size of G1 is 28 x 34 cm (11.0 x 13.4 in). This size was chosen to fit the most popular Pallotinum Gospel from Poland.
Alternately, the size can be easily changed to 32 x 38 cm (12.6 x 15.0 in).
Currently, a Gospel 3.5 cm (1.4 in) thick can be accomodated.
The total extent of Gospel Cover G1 is 59.5 cm wide (28 + 28 + 3.5) by 34. cm long (23.4 x 13.4 in).
ABA Cuprum is open to changes in dimensions than those stated above.

SUPPORTING LEGS ON BACK COVER OF G1
The back of the Gospel Cover is protected by four protruding turquoise stones. These can withstand pressure from laying the Gospel Cover on a stone altar.
Two options are worth considering:
- Option 1: Supporting legs could be differerent than blue
- Option 2: Supporting legs could be metal, thus reducing cost
ADDING A DECORATIVE PLAQUE TO G1
You might want to add a special dedication to the gospel cover. Or perhaps the words would indicate ownership.
It is possible to do this by adding a plaque. The plaque would be fashioned in metal and likely be put on the inside of the back cover. A prototypical plaque is shown below (here added to the Virgin of Lichen icon)
FRAME TO STRENGTHEN GOSPEL COVER OF G1
There is a space between the outer leather and inner velvet surfaces.
A frame for strengthing has been put in this space. This frame is made of arc-welded metal plus wood plates.
FIGURES and SCENES OF G1
The cover shows four Evangelists:
- St. John (with the Eagle)
- St. Matthew with the Angel)
- St. Luke (with the Ox)
- St. Mark (with the Lion)
The scenes of St. John and St. Matthew emphasize the "heavenly" field of interest. The figures and scenes of St. John and St. Matthew also appear on the Crucifix Crosses from ABA Cuprum.
The scenes with St. Luke and St. Mark reference the daily matters of Jesus' life, as contained in the Gospel.
In the central panel is the Rising Jesus with the angel as well as Mary Magdalene and the empty tomb of Christ.
The central panel on the back cover is the Holy Trinity.

#G2 Gospel Cover -
Front Cover in Closed Position

More Silver and Gold with G2. On the exterior, silver with 24 Karat Gold highlights have replaced the leather areas.
Velvet Interior Finish of G2. Similar to G1 above, the inside of Gospel Cover G2 is finished in velvet. Two leather bands extend vertically toward the outside of the velvel panels as retainers to hold the Gospel in place.
Sizing of G2. The size of G2 as pictured above is the same as G1: 28 x 34 cm (11.0 x 13.4 in) in closed position (3.5 cm 1.4 in thick).
Back Cover Legs & Plaque of G2. The legs on the back cover are turquoise. A plaque can be added to the inside cover.

#G3 Gospel Cover -
Front Cover in Closed Position

The scenes and figures of Gospel Cover G3 are similar to Covers G1 and G2 above.
Additional information is provided below.
- Dimensions 17 x 25.5 cm (6.7 x 10.0 in) in closed position. Larger versions are available.
- The metal panels with scenes and figures are silver plated on copper with gilded 24K gold.
- The metal panels are mounted on colored leather.
- The color of the leather can be purple (shown to the left), black, brown, or red.
- Different width gospel can be accomodated, as shown with the next two images below.

#G3 Gospel Cover -
Insert With Both Front & Back Iconic Panels
|
The front and back iconic metal panels are attached to a leather insert sheet.
The space between the front and back iconic panels (the spline) can be adjusted to accommodate thicker gospels.
The white-colored triangle area is then wrapped around to the back and inserted into the back leather sheet.

GOSPEL COVER G4
Gospel Cover G4 features Saints Peter and Paul on the front panel. The back panel shows the Jesus Rising scene, similar to that on Gospel covers G1, G2, and G3 above.
The four vertical figures on the spline (middle) are, starting at the top: St. Matthew, St. John, St. Mark, and St. Luke. These four figures also appear on Crucifix A71M and A71P.
Gospel Cover G4 is silver plate with considerable 42K gold gilding. Turquoise beads protect both the front and back covers.
The background material (red colored in above image) is leather.
